Week 11 – coronavirus update – no major breakthru’s, a clarification

We are in the waiting phase for many things related to this epidemic:

  1. How the loosening of the lockdown will affect the spread of the disease.
  2. How vaccine trials will turn out
  3. How treatment trials will turn out

There are still many areas of outbreak that fall below the radar of the popular press. I was notified that Gallop, New Mexico, was completely shut down recently due to the outbreak in its city limits. I-40 was closed, so you had a 70 mile detour to avoid even driving through the city.

I suspect there are many more of these instances that we do not hear about unless in local or national news.

I bring this up to underscore the concern that this will take several years of cautious interactions before this disease becomes a background illness.

I suspect the outcome of the next few months will provide a road map for guidelines on our social interactions for the next few years.

CORRECTION: I made mention of ethyl alcohol-containing hand sanitizers containing a potential carcinogen identified by the FDA. This does not apply to ALL brands, but only less than 3% of all hand sanitizers available. I could not find the brands that were asked to be removed.

  1. The photo of Yosemite was a bright spot in my morning! Thanks as always for the updates and information and for the “feel good” photos!
